The transport issue in Yerevan can only be solved by introducing a high-quality electric transport network, Armen Poghosyan, chair of the Association of Consumers of Armenia Public Organization told reporters on Thursday.

 “We are the only country in the world that has an excess of electricity that can be used in transport,” he said.

Poghosyan noted that no substantive discussions about transport problems are being conducted at the city hall of the capital.

“Today, authorities say that the draft of a new transport network is 70% ready, but the question arises on what principles work is ongoing. The same applies to the development of electric vehicles. But the program does not indicate the time frame, resources, funds for which everything will be implemented. Without it,  it looks like a hoax,” he said.

The expert recalled that $ 1 million was spent on researching the transport network of Yerevan, the British representatives were invited, but normal discussions were not held with the involvement of interested parties and public organizations.
