The Bright Armenia Party had initially set the goal to regulate the law on political parties since there were certain problems with the law. This is what member of the task force for making supplements to the Law of the Republic of Armenia “On political parties”, deputy of the Bright Armenia Party Karen Simonyan declared during a press conference today.

According to him, the problems are mainly linked to the registration of political parties and the regulation of registration, as well as the existence of democratic values within a particular political party. “That was when our political party decided that there was a need to make amendments to the law, allowing political parties to become institutional bodies because, at the end of the day, in a parliamentary system of governance, it is implied that political parties are hinged on that system,” Simonyan explained.

He stated that the Bright Armenia Party and other political parties represented in parliament have certain consensus and added that there is a common view on the amendments to be made.

One of the main sections of the law on political parties is increase of transparency and publicity of and accountability for funding provided to political parties, improvement of the mechanisms for public oversight over them, as well as distinction of political activities and business.
