YEREVAN. – The authorities suggested that the bill would also liberalize the posts of police chief and National Security Service director deputies and make it possible to make such appointments outside the system. Edmon Marukyan, head of the opposition Bright Armenia faction, said this in a conversation with reporters today in the National Assembly (NA), referring to the bill they have presented, and which has already been adopted in parliament in the first reading.

"We have suggested that this condition be acceptable if, also, there is a point added to the NA Rules of Procedure, whereby, based on a letter from the NA faction, heads of bodies under the government and the prime minister come to the factions and answer the questions of faction members," he said. “There is no consensus on this issue yet, the negotiations continue. If we do not agree, they will completely reject the package."

According to him, there are two options: either to postpone or to reject. "Since the draft is adopted in the first reading, it is a matter of mandatory discussion," he added. "We are now negotiating for the draft to be fully adopted."
