YEREVAN. – In 1960-2015, the average air temperature in Armenia rose by 1.3 degrees Celsius, and the precipitation decreased by 9 percent. Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan said this during the December 20 discussion within the framework of the EU-UNDP "EU for Climate" regional program.

"According to the World Bank data, Armenia is the fourth most vulnerable country in the region in terms of climate change," he added.

The minister noted that the solution to the problems related to climate change is also linked to economic challenges, as it also affects the efficiency of conducting agriculture.

Grigoryan stressed the importance of the Green Climate Fund’s $3mn grant to Armenia to develop adaptation priorities under the Paris Agreement.

Grigoryan also reminded about the plans of the Armenian authorities to plant 10 million trees in 2020.

According to him, by 2050 it is planned not only to plant trees, but also to implement comprehensive measures to improve the climatic conditions in Armenia, including by increasing the number of electric vehicles.
