YEREVAN. –  In 2019, we have taken a number of important steps in the energy field, which will lead to Armenia being able to become an important hub from Iran and toward the north—Georgia and the EEU countries, to create an important high-voltage power line through which we can to become a transit country. Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan stated this at his yearend press conference today.

"We have made a decision to implement the system set up toward Georgia in a new way; in other words, we have reached an agreement with our loan providing partners (KfW bank) that we will announce separate tenders in three lots, which will reduce the amount of money previously envisioned, several times,” Papikyan emphasized. "By doing so, we will buy time to be able to build those important infrastructures that will help our state become an economic, energy hub."

He also touched upon the issue of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, noting that an agreement was reached with the Russian side, which assumes the extension of the nuclear plant’s operation and its modernization.
