Azerbaijan drew a red line in the negotiations a long time ago and isn’t preparing to cross it. Baku will only sign under a document that is within the scope of this. If not, it will unleash a war, and Baku has said this several times and showed it in 2016. This is what analyst Angela Elibegova told reporters today.

She stated that, in essence, the Armenian foreign minister’s response in Bratislava showed once again the Armenian side’s “red lines”, and what was added was the fact that the solution has to be acceptable for Armenia, Karabakh and Azerbaijan. “If this is just desire, we need to recall that the reality is different, and the solution is based on mutual concessions that will be extremely painful for the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides,” Elibegova said.

The analyst added that it is currently impossible to say what document will be presented to the public in Armenia and the public in Azerbaijan. “First, if the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs say the negotiations need to be kept secret, then they need to be kept secret. Second, if a certain document is introduced, the part about the Armenian side also needs to be presented. Third, it is inacceptable to do everything by referring to media outlets, taking into consideration the fact that Baku takes advantage of every opportunity to advance its propaganda,” she stressed.

According to her, Armenia’s sole objective is to bring Karabakh back to the negotiating table, not to, say, ask the presidential candidates of Karabakh what they think about the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, just like Nikol Pashinyan asked during his press conference in Kapan.
