The number of COVID-19 cases has risen sharply in 14 US states since the beginning of June, the Washington Post reported referring to its own calculations.

Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Texas, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, New Mexico, Mississippi, Oregon, Tennessee and Utah, and Puerto Rico had the highest performance in the past week.

According to it, this is happening amid a trend towards an increase in the number of infections in the US rural areas, while the 'first wave' of infection occurred in densely populated cities such as New York and Chicago.

As reported earlier, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring the situation with the protests following the death of George Floyd, and how the protests can affect the statistics on COVID-19.
