The Pentagon is forming a new task force to investigate UFOs that have been spotted by US military aircraft, CNN reported, citing defense officials.

Deputy Defense Secretary David Norquist will coordinate the task force, which is expected to be formally unveiled in the next few days. Previous attempts to figure out what the Pentagon calls UFOs have been led by the US Navy, as their aircraft have been involved in many of the documented encounters.

Members of Congress and Pentagon officials have long expressed concern over the appearance of unidentified objects that have flown over US military bases, posing a threat to military aircraft. There is no consensus about their origin, and some believe that they may be drones, potentially controlled by terrestrial opponents, and not by aliens.
