YEREVAN. – It is incomprehensible what Baku thought when engaging the militants in the Karabakh conflict, as they pose a threat not only to the region. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, stated this during the debates on the 2021 draft budget at Thursday’s joint meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committees on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs and on Foreign Relations.

According to the minister, the compatriots in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the Armenian people are fighting with three de facto enemies: Turkey, mercenary terrorists, and Azerbaijan. "The emergence of terrorists in our region is a challenge in a much larger context—and not just for us. The consequences are really serious," Mnatsakanyan said.

The militants are a risk to many countries—and not only to Armenia's immediate neighbors, the Foreign Minister stressed.

Mnatsakanyan also mentioned that, currently, the fight against terrorism is one of the main activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, and the ministry raises this issue also in contacts with colleagues from other countries.

The FM added that he hopes to talk in more detail about this topic soon.
