To date, the Government of Armenia and human rights activists have submitted (or are preparing to submit) nearly 50 applications to the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of the families of Armenian prisoners of war with the request to apply an urgent measure to protect the right to life and the right to be free of inhumane treatment. This is what human rights activist Siranush Sahakyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Human rights activists Artak Zeynalyan and Siranush Sahakyan have submitted complaints regarding 29 prisoners of war alone.

As far as the total number of servicemen and civilians captured by Azerbaijanis is concerned, Sahakyan says there are over 100 such captives and added that she and other human rights activists are collecting pieces of evidence to identify those people and confirm the fact of captivity.

Touching upon the number of people captured after the ceasefire agreement was reached, the human rights activist stated that this mainly concerns civilians and there is no specific chronology in the rest of the cases.

The European Court of Human Rights has already granted the applications of the Armenian party under several cases and decided to apply urgent measures for protection of the rights of servicemen who were captured during the large-scale war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
