Russian President Vladimir Putin’s mediation to end hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)] deserves the highest appreciation. The statement came from Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during Wednesday’s videoconference of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), RIA Novosti reported.

"The agreement reached with the most active participation of Russia, in my opinion, is the only right decision in the current critical situation," he added.

According to Tokayev, "this agreement will contribute to the establishment of long-term peace in the region."

"I believe this is a truly historic agreement," added the President of Kazakhstan.

On November 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities— which Azerbaijan had launched on September 27—in and around Artsakh. Accordingly, Russian peacekeepers are deployed in the region to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities. But this statement also stipulates the handover of part of Artsakh lands to Azerbaijan.
