Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan informs that the positive shift in prison healthcare is obvious in Armenia, and the number of deaths in prisons has decreased four times in the country.

"It is no secret that one of the primary issues of the penitentiary system in recent years was the increase in the mortality rate. (…) In 2020, we have recorded positive progress in that direction.

(…) the number of deaths [in Armenia’s prisons] has significantly decreased compared to previous years. In 2020, 5 cases of death were recorded, whereas in 2019 we had 21 cases of death. (…) no deaths with a COVID-19 diagnosis were recorded among prisoners.

Steps to ensure the high quality of medical care in penitentiaries will be continuous (…)," Badasyan wrote on Facebook.
