The war in Nagorno-Karabakh affected 1,000 hectares of forests in Armenia, 100 of which are in the northeast (forest economy of Artsvaberd in Tavush Province), and the rest are in Syunik Province. This is what Minister of Environment of Armenia Romanos Petrosyan told reporters today, adding that the Ministry of Environment has addressed six letters to international organizations since the war broke out.

Petrosyan explained that the first three letters signaled the environmental risks that the war may cause. “Another letter concerned the forest fires caused by the use of phosphorus munitions, and another two letters concerned the ecological situation in the south of Nagorno-Karabakh and southeastern Armenia following the war. The Ministry of Environment had also drafted a 36-page report. Today, international partners are more seriously interested and are asking for detailed information,” Petrosyan stressed.
