Officers from the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia Department for Combating Smuggling have exposed an exceptional case of drug trafficking.

As a result of the customs inspection carried out in one of the customs warehouses of the capital Yerevan, 33 boxes of heroin were found in an 18,600kg cargo that was declared as yeast.

Weighing in at around 365 kilograms with the packaging, the market value of this consignment of heroin is about US$45 million. This is the largest amount discovered by Armenian law enforcement agencies since 2014, which is unprecedented in the entire region.

This heroin was intended to be transported from Iran to Western Europe via Armenia.

The criminal scheme has been solved.

A criminal case has been initiated at the SRC Investigation Department.

Six people with various citizenships have been detained.

Measures are taken with the National Security Service to find out the circle of some other individuals possibly involved in the case.
