Turkey violated international law and its obligations to NATO in the Eastern Mediterranean by its actions against Greece, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted.

According to him, bilateral disputes should be resolved peacefully and diplomatically, not militarily and certainly not provocatively.

He noted that they criticized actions, including by Turkey, that violate international law and its obligations to NATO, including its provocative actions against Greece and the violation of its airspace.

He said the United States welcomes the resumption of diplomatic contacts between Athens and Ankara to resolve their differences.

Blinken added that the resumption of Turkey's cooperation with the European Union and other countries in a more productive way helped to reduce tensions. The United States is watching the situation in the eastern Mediterranean with concern, he added.

According to him, Washington should play an active role in helping to strengthen stability there.

Blinken also said Washington would support a long-term solution to the Cyprus problem through a bipartite and bicommunal federation.
