The Prosecutor General’s Office of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) confirms the news that it has instituted a criminal case in relation to the fact that former Secretary of the Security Council Samvel Babayan caused property damage worth AMD 100,000,000 to the state through misuse of official powers in October 2020.

As reported the news department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal case was instituted on February 8 on the basis of a report sent from the Security Council.

The particular article of the Criminal Code of Artsakh states that misuse of official powers shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of two to six years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or be involved in certain activities for a term of maximum three years.

As reported the Prosecutor General’s Office, the same day, the criminal case was forwarded to the Investigative Committee of Artsakh, which has accepted it for proceedings, and the case is in the stage of preliminary investigation.

A few days ago, Pahst daily newspaper cited its sources and reported that former Secretary of the Security Council Samvel Babayan caused great damage to the state during the five-six months of his term of office and that a criminal case is instituted. The outcome of the case maximally depends on the political will of Armenia’s authorities.
