The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) today held a narrow-format session and later an enlarged session, and the Armenian delegation was led by acting Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian.

As reported the press service of the Armenian MFA, the acting foreign minister thoroughly presented the security situation in the Caucasus region of the CSTO, focusing on the escalation of the situation created as a result of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ infiltration into the borderline provinces of the Republic of Armenia. “The infiltration of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan into the sovereign territory of Armenia poses a threat to the security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of a member state of the CSTO, which poses a challenge to the collective security system of the CSTO,” Aivazian stated.

The acting foreign minister informed his counterparts that the procedure of the CSTO for response to emergency situations is becoming current in this situation. Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Aivazian stressed that Azerbaijan’s use of force can in no way lead to a resolution of the conflict and that the conflict must be resolved exclusively through politics and diplomacy, that is, under the auspices of the Co-Chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group and based on the unified and comprehensive implementation of the principles developed by the mediation mission.

The impact of the mediation mission on global and regional situations and the security of member states, the cooperation of member states of the CSTO and the actions for increase of effectiveness of the CSTO were on the agenda.

After the session, the foreign ministers adopted and approved several documents on cooperation of the CSTO member states in different directions.

Before the ministerial session, the heads of delegations of CSTO member states and the CSTO Secretary-General had held a meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
