YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: The country, which is preparing for the [snap parliamentary] elections [on June 20], has lost interest in this political event since last week. The reason is the Azerbaijani army’s incursion into the Ishkhanasar hills of Syunik Province and Gegharkunik Province and the subsequent events.

Our sources at the RA MOD claim that clearing this area is a matter of hours for the Armenian armed forces, there are developed plans for other cases as well.

To our question whether our army can perform a task, our interlocutor insisted that definitely, but only they should provide it with weapons and not fight against 5-6 countries again. If they stand face to face with Azerbaijan, they will win again.

And here, our governmental sources claim that they have serious doubts and well-founded data that Azerbaijan took this action at the instigation of a third force, and the goal is to lower [Armenian acting PM] Nikol Pashinyan's [popularity] rating so that he loses the elections.

That is, the government conditions the border advance and incidents with internal problems. Moreover, Those at [the ruling] My Step [bloc] fear that Pashinyan's opponents have already achieved some success, as, according to opinion polls, about 60 percent of those wishing to participate in the elections were ready to vote for the political force led by Pashinyan, but that number will certainly decrease after the recent events.
