French citizen Benjamin Briere, who has been in custody in Iran since May 2020, will face trial on charges of spaying and propaganda, DW reported.

Briere is accused of photographing forbidden areas with a drone in an Iranian nature reserve, a lawyer said. He is also accused of propaganda, as he asked on social media why wearing a woman's headscarf is mandatory in Iran, while women in other Muslim countries are given the right to choose.

Currently, the prosecutor's office is preparing the text of the indictment. Espionage is punishable by death in Iran, and propaganda against the system is punishable by up to one year in prison.
