The investigation of the circumstances behind the 44-day Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war last fall is in the interests of Armenia’s authorities. National Assembly (NA) speaker Alen Simonyan told about this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, it is better to evaluate the mistakes now—if there are any.

"The more transparent the work of the committee investigating the circumstances behind the 44-day war is, the better, the broader the engagement of different layers [of society], the better," said Simonyan.

According to him, the parliamentary opposition, based on its respective status, will be included in this committee, and extra-parliamentary forces’ participation in this committee will ensure broader engagement.

When asked how the authorities which have all the levers can investigate the circumstances behind this war, Alen Simonyan responded that the perception of such an opinion comes from what happened during the past 25 to 30 years when the former Armenian authorities had used all their levers to conceal initiatives.

"However, it should be noted that the initiative to set up this committee belongs to the [incumbent] authorities. It is done so that various questions, invented versions be as few as possible, and the society learn the truth," the NA speaker concluded.
