The chairmanship of the CIS in 2022 passes to Kazakhstan from Belarus, which led the organization on its 30th anniversary.

According to observers, the CIS has emerged as a political organization, and Minsk, amid a pandemic and political upheavals in individual countries of the union, managed to preserve it as a "platform of opportunities." Nur-Sultan will have to continue the progressive development of the CIS as a regional association.

As the speaker of the Senate of the parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbaev said, one of the priorities of the republic’s chairmanship will be the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy. He explained that the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev has already approved the concept of chairmanship, which will be presented in January.

By May 2022, it is planned to prepare an agreement on free trade in services in the CIS for signing by the heads of governments of the member states.
