Russia hopes that the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)] will end with a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko of the Russian Federation Council stated this at the meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, TASS reports.
"We [i.e., Russia] have high hopes that this situation will end with a peace agreement; we sincerely want that," Matviyenko said, commenting on statements by Armenian National Assembly speaker Alen Simonyan and Azerbaijani parliament speaker Sahiba Gafarova on a possible peace agreement.
