SpaceX on a Falcon 9 rocket launched the South Korean spacecraft Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), which is due to enter lunar orbit in mid-December, TASS reports.

The 678-kilogram spacecraft is expected to map the lunar surface, which will help find a future landing site and identify likely sources of water in the craters. KPLO will stay in lunar orbit for about a year.

The cost of the mission is estimated at $180 million.
