The trade turnover between Russia and Iran in January-July this year amounted to $2.7 billion. The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the upcoming visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to Moscow tomorrow.

"We note the progress in the negotiations for a full-fledged free trade agreement between Iran and the EAEU. Four rounds of consultations have already taken place, we expect that the desired result will be achieved as soon as possible. This will give additional impetus to bilateral trade and economic interaction, the volume of which continues to grow. Between January and July of this year, trade turnover amounted to $2.7 billion. This is 42.5% more than during the same period last year," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministers will pay special attention to the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program, the negotiation process for the restoration of which has reached the "finish line," the statement said.

"The current situation in Ukraine in the context of the ongoing special military operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be touched upon.

On the Syrian settlement, the principled position of Moscow and Tehran is to support unconditional respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the SAR and the legitimate right of Syrians to independently determine the future of their country. The sides attach great importance to the effective functioning of the Astana format, the next summit of the guarantor states that was successfully held in Tehran on July 19, 2022.

The Russian and Iranian foreign ministers will compare notes on other pressing regional issues, including the situation in the Caspian Sea, Afghanistan, the South Caucasus, the Persian Gulf, Yemen, and the Middle East.

Russia supports Iran's admission to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. We expect Iran to sign a memorandum of commitment at the SCO summit in Samarkand in September 2022", says the Russian Foreign Ministry.
