Iran may purchase about 9 million cubic meters of gas from Russia daily for its needs and swap supplies in the near future. This was reported by Fars, citing a report by the Iranian Oil Ministry.

"Iran under the agreement between Gazprom and the Iranian National Oil Company will soon start buying gas from Russia for its own needs and swap supplies to other countries. The volume of daily purchases will be 9 million cubic meters of gas," the publication noted.

According to the agency, the supply of gas to Iran will go through Azerbaijan. In addition, the purchase of 6 million cubic meters of gas daily for swap deliveries in the form of LNG to other countries is planned.

They also added that Gazprom and the Iranian National Oil Company signed a $40bn cooperation agreement in July which will cover field development, as well as LNG projects and construction of gas pipelines.
