German Bundestag member Till Mansmann, who is also President of the German-Armenian Forum, welcomed the agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the support of the European Union (EU), to respect their national borders, 1lurer.am reported.

"The agreement inspires hope that the tension in the South Caucasus region, which was caused as a result of Azerbaijan's [recent military] attack on Armenia, can be settled diplomatically. Reports of appalling human rights violations related to these military actions must now be intensively investigated. The crimes committed during and after the battles must lead to criminal prosecution and must not leave the international community indifferent," the German MP noted.

He expressed a conviction that the respect for the sovereignty of each and every country's territory, as well as the priority of refraining from the use of force according to international law, must be strictly observed.

"I sincerely thank the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, for working so quickly and intensively within the framework of the EU's value orientation, in order to reach the current agreement. As the President of the German-Armenian Forum, I call on the [German] Federal Government to join these activities and support the peace process in the South Caucasus," Mansmann noted.
