President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered to increase the volume of oil transportation bypassing Russia through the ports of Aktau and Kuryk in the Caspian Sea up to 20 million tons per year.

According to him, given the current situation in the world, the development of the Trans-Caspian route is of particular importance.

"We need to activate all the existing capacities of the ports of Aktau and Kuryk in order to increase the capacity and bring the volume of oil transportation up to 20 million tons per year," the Kazakh leader said at a meeting with the public of the Mangistau region.

Tokayev noted that by virtue of its good geographical position, Mangistau region has great potential, and the port city of Aktau can be rightly called the "sea gates of Kazakhstan". The President urged to rationally use the strengths and to turn the region into a transport and transit hub of global importance.

The head of state added that it is planned to implement several measures aimed at attracting money for the development of port infrastructure, creation of container and transport-logistic hubs.
