Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia appealed to the European Commission for funding the development of infrastructure for Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sijjjarto at a press conference with Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikail Jabbarov, RIA Novosti reported.

According to Sijjjarto, along with Romanians, Bulgarians and Slovaks Hungary demanded from the EC to provide financial support for the development of infrastructure necessary for the inclusion of increased amounts of Azerbaijani gas via the route via Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia as a priority.

As the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said, the matter concerns the development of infrastructure, construction of new interconnectors and increasing the capacity of existing ones.

In September, Siijjarto said at a meeting of energy ministers of Turkic states that the volume of gas coming from Azerbaijan to Europe would double in the coming years, calling it the most realistic possibility of diversifying European energy supplies.
