The head of Russia’s Gazprom company, Alexey Miller, on Tuesday discussed with the president of the state oil company SOCAR of Azerbaijan, Rovshan Najaf, the possible directions of cooperation development, reports the press service of Gazprom.

"The parties discussed the course of interaction between the companies, as well as the possible directions for the development of cooperation," the message says, in part.

In November of last year, it was reported that the aforesaid Russian company started supplying natural gas to Azerbaijan under a new contract with SOCAR, and that the amount of respective supply will reach 1 billion cubic meters by March 2023, Prime reports.

Gazprom supplied natural gas to Azerbaijan in 2000-2006, but then the country began increasing natural gas production from the Shah Deniz field for exports to Georgia and Turkey.

Supplies were resumed in 2017-2018.

From 2019, after the second stage of commissioning of Shah Deniz, Azerbaijan again declined from buying natural gas from Russia.

The activities of SOCAR include exploration, extraction, processing, transportation and sale of oil, natural gas, and natural gas condensate.
