Russia views the statement by the prime minister of Armenia as a confirmation of the position adopted by him at the Prague summit on October 7, 2022, with the participation of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, France and the EU, which refers to the Almaty declaration of 1991. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian foreign ministry, said this at Wednesday’s press briefing.

Zakharova recalled that a joint statement was adopted in Prague, which contains a reference to the Almaty declaration of 1991, according to which the administrative borders between the former republics of the USSR are recognized as national borders.

"As we have said many times, the Prague agreement has given a qualitatively new framework to the negotiation process between Baku and Yerevan," said the official representative of the Russian foreign ministry.

Zakharova noted that the recent statements by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have caused an ambiguous reaction in Armenia and in Nagorno-Karabakh.

She added that Russia is a mediator in the settlement of the matter, and in this regard it is important to have a clear position of Armenia regarding Nagorno-Karabakh.

"This is not just a topic, not just a question, this is a conflict of many years, mediation efforts, which were shown by international organizations and regional countries. Of course, in order to promote the documents that were signed, it is necessary to know the clear position of the country in this regard," Zakharova said.

The official representative of the Russian foreign ministry emphasized that such statements about the vision of the country's political order are the entitlement of Armenia and its people.
