On October 4, Mher Margaryan, the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, held a meeting with Alice Wairimu Nderitu, the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Genocide Prevention and Deputy Secretary-General. During the meeting, Margaryan presented the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and discussed how the UN is planning to respond to the situation.

Margaryan emphasized that the current reaction of UN bodies regarding Azerbaijan's aggression cannot be considered sufficient and called for more active involvement of the Office of the Special Counsel in genocide prevention efforts. He also pointed out that the distorted description of the situation by the mission that visited Nagorno-Karabakh, coordinated by the UN office in Azerbaijan, is being used by Azerbaijan to cover up ethnic cleansing.

He also called for a joint fact-finding visit to Nagorno-Karabakh with UN bodies to document the crimes committed by Azerbaijan against forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh and present accurate information.

The Special Adviser expressed readiness to make appropriate efforts and participate in activities carried out by the United Nations to address the situation.
