In the vernacular, Armenia is not stronger than Turkey and Azerbaijan. Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, stated this in a briefing with reporters in the NA Thursday.

"We [i.e. Armenia] cannot withstand, especially when the ally [i.e. Russia] that was supposed to protect us, did not protect us, at best, if not in some joint process, and I am sure that there is some joint process—and for a long time.

I am sure that the war in Ukraine started with the Nagorno-Karabakh war [in 2020]. Here there was a need to get an alternative way to avoid possible sanctions, which is being done now. For example, Azerbaijan is now selling Russian [natural] gas to Europe through its pipelines; that is a fact, it’s not my imagination," the NA speaker emphasized.

Also, Simonyan did not rule out that the Nagorno-Karabakh war in 2020 was arranged by Azerbaijan and Russia. "I do not rule out that such an agreement took place because when you compare the facts, everything was interconnected. I can even say that it started in Syria, the Russian-Turkish conflict in Syria, when they [i.e. Turkey] shot down a [Russian military] plane, then moved to our region, an attempt was made to ensure stability in this region, to put a noose around the necks of two countries—Armenia and Azerbaijan, but the plans were disrupted. Turkey entered [the region]. I do not rule out that this arrangement was made between Turkey and Russia," said the Armenian parliament speaker.
