The United States is sending additional forces to the Middle East to provide additional protection to the troops stationed there. A US defense ministry spokesman said.

"We are moving additional forces to the region to support regional deterrence efforts and enhance the security of US troops. We have no other information to provide at this time," the military official said.

His comment came amid concerns about an expected Iranian strike on Israel in response to a recent attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
