NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg wrote on his microblog on X that he discussed with Slovak Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinak the assassination attempt on the country's Prime Minister Robert Fico.

"Today I spoke with Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinak to express my solidarity with Prime Minister Robert Fico and the people of Slovakia.

The attack on the Prime Minister is an attack on our democracies and open societies.

We must unite to stand up for our values," Stoltenberg said.

The assassination attempt on Fico occurred yesterday, 15 May. Fitzo was shot several times. He was operated on, but the condition of the Slovak Prime Minister still remains serious.

The 71-year-old shooter is in custody. According to his statement and according to the authorities, the motives for the assassination attempt were political.
