Armenia has the capacity to defend itself, and its defense capabilities should not be underestimated. This was stated by Iranian ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani, during a press conference Thursday.
"We [i.e. Iran] prefer that issues be resolved diplomatically and are against the use of force to resolve regional issues. We will make every effort to prevent tension in the region. Possible attempts to open roads by force have no explanation. We must do everything to avoid military clashes. We will use our relations with Azerbaijan and other countries to prevent such a scenario," added the Iranian envoy to Armenia.
Also, he expressed a belief that the process of border delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is an important step towards achieving peace.
"It is based on the Alma-Ata Declaration [of 1991] and international laws. If this process is carried out in the spirit of international norms, it will contribute to ensuring peace and stability [in the region]. The process of clarifying the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan cannot have an impact on the border of Armenia and Iran," Sobhani noted.
