YEREVAN. - 2011 was noteworthy because Armenia continued its multidirectional initiative and effective policy deepening relations with all partners, the deputy speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly, the press secretary of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov said in an interview to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“First of all I want to mention Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s official visit to Russia which again reminds of the close relations between Armenia and Russia. French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to Armenia was important too and we all witnessed good comments about our country’s policy. We deepened relations with American partners, and also with the EU, Russia and the USA,” Sharmazanov said.

The deputy speaker also stressed the importance of RPA’s participation in the European National party.

“It is no coincidence that the President of ENP mentioned in his speech that Armenia constructs a peaceful democracy. We all well know that such announcements are not done for one’s beautiful eyes,” he added.

Talking about the settlement of the Karabakh conflict Sharmazanov mentioned that the international public witnessed an unconstructive disposition from Azerbaijan.

“Armenia proved again that we stand strongly on our place. The most important thing for us is Karabakh’s status. Armenia will do everything to achieve international recognition of Karabakh’s independence,” stressed Sharmazanov.

Talking about relations with Turkey, he mentioned that if Turkey wants zero problems with its neighbors then instead of nullifying the chances of good relations with neighbors it should make steps toward strengthening them.
