YEREVAN. – Greens’ Union of Armenia Chairman Hakob Sanasaryan commented on the “rivers” that appear in capital city Yerevan as a result of heavy rains, and noted that the city finds itself in a catastrophic situation due to incorrect use of the drainage and water systems, according to Aravot (Morning) newspaper.
“In Mr. Sanasaryan’s conviction, the closing of the [small] Getar [river that flows through the central parts of Yerevan] will one day lead to flooding. In his words, Getar overflowed in 1946 due to heavy rain, and ‘it even yanked out a 30-ton rock fragment and brought it with it.’
“And as per Hakob Sanasaryan, if the year [19]46 repeats, the water with such intensity will destroy the high-rise buildings, too,” wrote Aravot.
