Armenians’ union of Sassoon appealed to Batman (Sassoon) governor’s office calling to protect Armenian churches.

Aziz Dagci, head of the Sason Armenians Social Assisstance, Solidarity and Cultural Association, protested against destruction of a part of the Armenian Holy Mary (Supreme Holy Mary) Church located atop Mount Marout. In his letter he mentioned that the Armenian churches of the province have been recently attacked, IHA agency reported.

“The last example is destruction of Armenian Holy Mary church. We do not believe the churches are destroyed by treasure hunters. Under the Treaty of Lausanne, the Turkish government must protect churches and other spiritual sites belonging to the ethnic minorities. Turkey must implement the provisions of the treaty,” Dagci said in his letter.
