YEREVAN. – The employees of the Yerevan marts are threatening to stop their work unless the law on tax turnover tax is annulled, they said during a meeting with PM Hovik Abrahamyan.

The Prime Minister assured protesters that the law is targeted at making tax evaders pay taxes, while small and medium-sized business will not be hurt.

“If you want make them pay taxes, please do not do it at our expense. Do not expose us to terror,” one of the traders told PM, asking to annul the law that is to come into effect from October 1.

Deputy Finance Minister Armen Alaverdyan, who was present at the meeting, assured the traders that the law will not act against them, and the tax inspectors will not come to the market every day. Finally the parties agreed that the traders will submit a written application to present their demands to Armen Alaverdyan. The demands will be considered and, if necessary, changes will be made.

Earlier demonstrators marched to the government building in a protest against amendments to the law on tax turnover.
