The US House of Representatives on Thursday passed a legislation on military aid to Ukraine and additional sanctions against Russia, The Hill reports.

A total of 226 congress members voted “for” and 195 “against.”

Also, 18 Republicans and independent Congressman Kevin Kiley from California joined Democrats in passing the bill.

The House on Wednesday had approved the initiative for consideration by a procedural vote.

The sponsor of the legislation is a member of the House, a Democrat, Gregory Meeks, who is in the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

However, the bill is unlikely to pass the Republican-controlled Senate, where Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) has rarely deviated from the president's position, The Hill noted.

According to Meeks, the Republican leadership is opposed to this legislation.

This bill provides for the provision of $ 8 billion in military loans to Kiev, the extension of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI)—which allows for the supply of weapons directly from Pentagon warehouses—until 2027, as well as additional sanctions against Russia.
