Australia will participate in the military mission to ensure the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz by providing an E-7A Wedgetail long-range radar detection and control aircraft. This is noted in a joint statement issued by the Australian Department of Defense following the talks between the Australian and British foreign and defense ministers.

According to the statement, the Australian Air Force E-7A Wedgetail aircraft will be involved in a multinational military mission, which will operate under the leadership of the UK and France. The statement notes that the operation will be exclusively defensive and will focus on ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The UK, in turn, plans to contribute Typhoon fighter jets, the destroyer HMS Dragon, unmanned ground-based devices for detecting and tracking potential threats, as well as naval mine detection equipment to participate in the mission.

Also, the aforesaid ministers reaffirmed their commitment to coordinating diplomatic, economic, and military efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The joint statement noted that the conflict in the Middle East and the closure of the strait negatively affect the global economy, energy supplies and energy security, especially in the more vulnerable countries, including those in the Pacific region.
