The Court of Appeal of Armenia overturned the first instance court's decision in the case of Archbishop Mikael Ajapahian, Primate of the Diocese of Shirak of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and the proceedings were transferred to the Shirak provincial court of first instance for a retrial.
Also, the house arrest imposed on Archbishop Ajapahian was lifted, but his travel ban remained unchanged.
Criminal proceedings were launched against Archbishop Mikael Ajapahian under the Armenian Criminal Code article on making public calls for seizing power, violating territorial integrity, renouncing sovereignty, or forcibly overthrowing the constitutional order.
He had been in custody since January 28, 2025, but on February 6, 2026, the preventive measure of detention applied to him was commuted to house arrest.
