Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese apologized after saying on a comedy podcast that he would like to “marry, date and sleep with” Australian singer Kylie Minogue.

During an appearance on the comedy podcast Bush Deep, the host invited the prime minister to play a popular game in which participants must choose which celebrities they would “sleep with, marry and go on a date with.” The options were Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Rhonda Burchmore.

At first, Albanese tried to avoid answering, noting that he himself had gotten married only six months earlier. However, after the host pressed him, he replied: “Kylie, of course,” and then added that he would choose Minogue “for all three.”

On Monday, the prime minister’s office released a statement from Albanese in which he apologized.

“I unreservedly apologize for those comments,” the head of government said in the statement.

As the British newspaper The Guardian notes, the prime minister’s remarks sparked criticism in Australian media and on social media.
