The defense team of businessman and leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan has filed a motion to recuse the investigative group. Tsarukyan’s lawyer Emin Khachatryan told reporters about this.

Earlier, it was reported that lawyer Yerem Sargsyan was removed from Tsarukyan’s defense team by the investigative body and granted witness status (at the request of Iranian businessmen).

“Given the violations, it would be naive to expect justice,” Khachatryan said, adding that Tsarukyan is being deprived of his right to defense.

The lawyer also stated that the confrontation procedure was terminated after the motion to recuse the investigative group was submitted.

Tsarukyan, who was arrested after the elections, is accused of large-scale fraud and money laundering. According to law enforcement authorities, the wealthy businessman organized the theft of property belonging to Iranian businessmen worth more than $21 million. Meanwhile, Tsarukyan’s lawyers claim that the Iranian businessmen owed money to the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, and that there are promissory notes confirming this.
