A ban on leaving the country and 1 billion drams in bail have been selected as the measure of restraint against Narek Karapetyan. This was reported to NEWS.am by the Prosecutor General's Office.

As a reminder, the previous day the Central Electoral Commission had been reviewing the motion submitted by the Prosecutor General's Office concerning stripping Narek Karapetyan of immunity and initiating public criminal prosecution against him.

After receiving the CEC's consent, the prosecutor initiated public criminal prosecution against Narek Karapetyan under the elements of Part 2 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code — "coercion to participate in an assembly through the use of violence or threats" — and Point 3 of Part 3 of Article 296 — "money laundering on an especially large scale." This was reported to "Azatutyun" (Radio Liberty) by the Prosecutor General's Office.

The CEC did not make the motion to allow the deprivation of Karapetyan's liberty a subject of discussion. CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan later clarified that the Central Electoral Commission decided to return the relevant motion, since the matter falls outside the scope of the Commission's powers.

Narek Karapetyan's teammates and lawyers characterize the motions submitted by the prosecutor's office and their review at the CEC as illegal.
