This year the apricot harvest hits the record in Armenia despite the negative forecast and bad weather conditions, RA Deputy Agriculture Minister Samvel Galstyan told NEWS.am today.

The 2009 harvest in Armenia made up 80-82 th.t. “In some regions of Armavir the abundant harvest hit the quality of the product,” Galstyan said.

He stated that around 80 percent of the yield has been sold in the Republic. The 2009 export volume totals to 11 th.t., whereas in 2008 it was under 7 th.t. The Deputy Minister said that the cargo is being exported via Georgia in containers and then on ships. Galstyan stressed that the closed “Upper” Lars causes large loss to Armenian side. RA authorities negotiate with Georgian Government on possibilities of export in Russia. Nevertheless, once Russia has requested a document confirming the quaity of the product imported from Armenia.
