The Armenian authorities have adopted a policy of severing ties with Russia and strengthening cooperation with the West. It is obvious that Yerevan seeks to expand cooperation with NATO, stated Russian Security Council secretary Sergey Shoigu.

“The most telling situation has arisen in Armenia. Let me remind that in the [19]90s, Russia saved that country from economic and energy collapse. And over the ten years of its membership in the EAEU, its economy has grown almost threefold. Meanwhile, the current [Armenian] authorities have adopted a policy of severing ties with Russia and strengthening cooperation with the West,” Shoigu said on Thursday at a meeting of members of the presidium of the Russian Scientific and Expert Council.

"Yerevan's aspiration to expand cooperation with NATO is obvious, as well as its openly consumerist attitude towards regional integration mechanisms, primarily the EAEU and the CSTO," added the secretary of the Russian Security Council.
