ISTANBUL. – Children of those Armenians, who left the county due to hard social conditions, continue to attend the school at Gedik-Pasha Armenian Evangelical Church in Istanbul, where conditions got better. Photo report is available here.

Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent met with the co-founder of the school Heriknaz Avagyan, who stressed the fact that Istanbul-Armenian community has started to actively get interested in the life of the school and to support it.

“Fear disappears gradually among the community, as before they avoided contacting with the illegally functioning school,” she said.

Regarding the Turkish government’s decision, which allows children of illegal status attending Armenian schools in Istanbul, Avagyan said that many parents reject sending their children to such schools as they follow the Turkish education program, while it fully corresponds to the Armenian system at the Gedik-Pasha.

In addition, number of children attending the kindergarten and the school has increased by 24, as compared to last year reaching 84. At the same time number of Armenian migrants has also increased in Turkey.

To note, the school is able to teach children only up to the fifth grade due to the lack of territory.
