December 21, 2009 the passenger train heading from Sisak to Zagreb failed to stop at Zagreb’s central station, derailed and hit the buffers, wounding 52 passengers.

According to ITAR-TASS, the driver suffered serious brain injuries and 22 others were hospitalized.

Accident causes are yet unclear. The local police does not rule out that the incident occurred in bad weather conditions caused by heavy snowfalls and icing.

An investigation is conducted to clarify the accident causes, Associated Press reports.
