YEREVAN. – Armenia is ranked 105th, from among 176 countries, in the corruption perceptions index, Director Varuzhan Hoktanyan of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center in Armenia stated during press a conference on Thursday.   

In his words, a respective survey has revealed that the country’s education and judicial systems and the Police are considered as the most corrupt. Fifty-three percent of the respondents expressed a view that corruption has grown in the past three years.  

In his turn, opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party MP Artsvik Minasyan noted that the results of combating corruption in Armenia are insufficient because there is no will to conduct systemic changes.

“An independent anticorruption agency needs to be created. Solely in this case will it be possible to wage a systemic fight against corruption,” he said. 

Also, Minasyan noted that the first target of this fight should be the judicial system, since it is impossible to combat corruption without justice.
